There is an increasingly popular design in tattoo parlors known as Ambigram. This is basically a graphical figure that can be inverted, mirrored and flipped, but still it would spell the same thing. For most people it is something of an optical illusion even though it is also referred to as a ‘flipscript’ or ‘inversion.’ The ever-shifting spaces play tricks with the vision and create a spell on the viewer.

For those who have a strong penchant for tattoos, there is a world of Ambigram designs for them to choose from, including fonts and scripts that range from simply beautiful to graphic masterpieces. A single design can have just one word or a complete phrase. Based upon the concept, you can rotate it, reverse it or reflect in mirrors, changing the meaning at times and at times keeping it the same. For example, you may see an angel one way and if the design is upturned it may show a devil, or this may appear in the way it is spelled.

An experienced tattoo artist can even create an Ambigram with an optical illusion. These designs have become increasingly popular among graphic artists, not just because of their exclusive symmetry but also because of their unexplained quality that has been readily accepted on book jackets and music albums. Getting this type of tattoo on one’s forearm, where it can be flipped in different ways has become popular with people.

There are many different types of Ambigram tattoos that you can choose to apply on your body. The rotational design displays different illustrations of words when it is rotated on a particular angle. Mirror is a tattoo design that could be read only when reflected from a mirror. There can be an Ambigram that forms different words when reflected in a mirror. These are called glass door ambigrams as they can be printed onto a glass door so that they can be read both when someone enters or exits.

Figure round is a design where the space between the letters of a word are used for forming another word. Chain is another Ambigram tattoo design words are interconnected to form a repetitive chain. Usually, the letters are overlapped so that a word would start halfway from another word. At times, these tattoos can also be displayed in a circle.

A fractal Ambigram is a tattoo design that is similar to the space-filling design. In this case the tiled word moves out and then moves back to form a fractal. Another design in this category of tattoos is the 3-D type in which case an object would appear as different letters or words when seen from various angles. This type of design is usually created with the help of some practical geometry.

Last but not the least, a perceptual shift Ambigram doesn’t have any symmetry. However, based upon the way the letter curves are taken it can display a couple of different words. In addition to these, there are several other ambigram tattoo designs to choose from.
